Digital X-Rays
The Staff at Marietta Rheumatology Associates is proud to offer Digital X-ray services to our patients. This technique creates digital images, allowing all of the advantages of digital photos. Instead of using old-fashioned film, digital X-rays employ digital sensors which require only minutes in our office to develop and makes the X-ray process more convenient for the patient. These X-rays can then be archived, enlarged, enhanced, or manipulated.
Digital X-Ray Advantages
- Increased speed of processing and delivery of the image to the requesting clinician
- Image manipulation to see areas normally lost due to under or over exposure
- No lost films
- Multiple copies of the same images can be available at the same time
- Increased speed and quality of reporting

Bone Density Testing
Osteoporosis, commonly known as brittle bone disease, affects millions of Americans with the majority of people affected aged 55 and older. Since osteoporosis and the related condition osteopenia can lead to increased risk of bone fractures, it is important to detect bone loss early.
Marietta Rheumatology Associates offers osteopenia/osteoporosis testing, known as a bone density scan. A bone density scan can give your physician a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis before you break any bones, or indicates whether you are at risk for either condition. A bone density scan allows patients to find out if they have the early signs of bone loss and take steps to prevent further loss.

Bone Density Scan
Bone density scan is fast, easy, and painless. The test takes only about 15 minutes, during which the patient lies quietly on a comfortable bed on the scanner. This method of osteoporosis testing is very precise, giving an early osteopenia/osteoporosis diagnosis.
Fractures can be prevented by taking the necessary steps to halt or slow bone loss. Generally, patients at risk for osteoporosis or osteopenia are treated with dietary changes, vitamin supplementation and exercise. Your physician may also recommend prescription medications if indicated.
Many patients are able to stay active for years after their diagnosis. Of course staying active is an excellent way to prevent osteoporosis from ever developing, and to prevent fractures and further bone loss if you are diagnosed with the condition.
To learn more about osteoporosis testing and diagnosis, follow up with your local rheumatologist.
